Amanda Booth

Updated: Aug 27, 2024

As I mentioned in my last blog, I want to talk about some ways we can brake threw or manage to get done what we need to even when we have emotional barriers that want to hold us back.

Now, I want to make sure I mention, I am not a phycologist. So, I'm not trying to give you advice in that profession. And I really want to encourage you to seek out that kind of professional help if you need it. We should all seek the help we need because everyone deserves to be healthy, happy, and safe.

Emotional Barriers

What are some of the emotional barriers we may face that hold us back from being as clutter free and organized as we would like? There can be a wide verity of things since every individual is different and has had different experiences in life.

Sometimes it is in how we were raised. Maybe we were raised to have respect and love for the past and people in the past and their stories. So, letting go of all those items you inherited of mom's, becomes verry stressful to think about doing. Or perhaps it was a rough up bringing and you didn't have much so now your emotions tells you, you need to keep it all because you don't know what will happen tomorrow. Perhaps your life has just gotten so busy and chaotic you feel overwhelmed and too exhausted to figure out how to even start to organize. Or maybe you feel this wall of emotion go up because you receive pressure from your family member that something must be done!

Well, whatever the situation is that you are facing, here are a few tips you can try that may help you brake threw emotional barriers to organize our lives and space.

Tips

1. One very useful tip that has come from a lot of experts is to imagine what your life would be like free of the clutter and organized just how you want it. How would you feel? Happy, confident, relaxed? What would you do? Relax while drinking your first cup of coffee before work. Enjoy play time with your small children after work or a board game with the teens so you can get to know what's happening in their lives? Or take up that new class you have always wanted to join?

Practicing this technique helps us to not only want that life more than the stuff but also helps us feel it is posable to be more organized, by focusing on the positive.

2. Sometimes we just need to start somewhere and start slow. But be consistent. If we can regularly schedule time, even if it's a little, we will see a difference. And as time goes on, the difference we see can motivate us to do more of the sorting and organizing.

3. Something that has helped me a lot is to watch shows of people organizing and purging. It motivates me and while I watch or listen to them, I'm working on my own belongings and space.

Summery

So, let's all treat ourselves to that daydream and imagine our lives in order. Pick a spot to start slow, and maybe throw on a motivating show or podcast to listen to and get organizing!
